Julia Walker is a marketing communications professional who consults with business and organizational clients. As a strategic planner, Ms. Walker helps clients develop solutions that are both innovative and effective.
Ms. Walker has particular talents for helping decision-makers understand how marketing communications should complement their overall business or organizational strategies. Her experience in media relations, the Web, advertising, promotions, events and every other communications tool drives her ability to turn a vision into a cohesive, strategic and measurable plan. She has special skill in setting measurable objectives, implementing assessment methods, and creating culturally relevant communications across the audience spectrum, including the general market and socio-economically diverse communities.
Ms. Walker has an extensive background in the health arena. She consults with the Black Beautyshop Health Foundation, a national organization based in Los Angeles that uses novel methods to improve the health of Black women and families. She has led national and grassroots health awareness programs and partnered with influential and activist African American organizations. Recently, as a senior vice president in the health division of Edelman, the world's largest public relations agency, Ms. Walker managed multi-million dollar educational campaigns for clients in the pharmaceutical industry.
Currently, Ms. Walker teaches a communications course as an adjunct professor in the Community Health program at Hunter College in New York City.
During the 1990s Ms. Walker served as communications director for The Balm In Gilead, a national organization that empowers African American churches to address HIV. In that role, Ms. Walker was instrumental in convincing Black media to report on HIV/AIDS in their communities. Ms. Walker also has consulted with organizations and government agencies serving Latino and Asian American communities.
Throughout her lengthy career, Ms. Walker led communications initiatives on behalf of major corporations including Gillette, AT&T and Pfizer. She offers clients expertise in effective use of celebrity spokespersons and maintains a foothold in the entertainment industry as a talent manager.
Ms. Walker enjoys sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for communications. She is an engaging and motivating presenter who has led workshops to teach organizations and entrepreneurs the marketing basics. She also has written or edited scores of annual reports, newsletters and brochures for organizations.
Ms. Walker is an alumna of Wellesley College, where she explored her life-long interest in communication and persuasion through a double major in philosophy and sociology. She is a native New Yorker who resides in Brooklyn and enjoys time with her family and her bicycle.
