Esther Novak is founder and CEO of VanguardComm. Her experience includes marketing communications, corporate public relations, events and sponsorships, government, philanthropy, and the arts. She founded Vanguard Communications in 1995 and headed Ketchum Vanguard, Ketchum’s multicultural marketing unit from 2001-2003.
Novak serves on the Board of Trustees of Grounds for Sculpture and the Advisory Board of the Latino Donor Collaborative. She recently completed multiple terms on the Board of Directors of AHAA, the Voice of Hispanic Marketing. Over the last several years, she has served on the New Jersey Council for Economic Growth, was recognized as one of the Best 50 Women in Business by NJBIZ, selected Professional Services Business Person of Year by the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, and Outstanding Peruvian by the TUMI USA Award.
Novak has successfully pioneered and developed leading edge programs and is regularly called on to lead industry forums and publish trend stories. She held various positions at AT&T where she established and led the Multicultural Public Relations unit, Community Affairs for the NJ headquarters, and developed the AT&T Foundation, where she became VP for Arts & Culture.
Earlier, Novak was director of interdisciplinary programs at the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. and founded Rutgers University’s Hispanic Arts Program, now established as the University’s Center for Latino Arts and Culture.
She has served on the Board of Directors at McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ, INTAR, the Statewide NJ Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Smithsonian Institution Latino Task Force, and El Museo del Barrio Advisory Board. The National Association of Hispanic Publications honored her for her contribution to Hispanic media and she was selected AT&T HISPA Role Model of the Year.
Peruvian born and bilingual, Novak graduated from Barnard College. She pursued graduate studies in Spanish literature at Columbia University and holds professional certificates in management and marketing from Columbia, Harvard and Duke.
